By the end of August, there were more than 93,500 vacancies for data science jobs in the country. This is stated in the report of the Great Learning Study conducted by AdTech Company. The report says that even after the Corona virus epidemic, there are many jobs in the field associated with analytics. Not only that, at the end of August 2020, India alone accounted for 9.8 % of all worldwide analytics job openings.

In January this year, India’s contribution to the world’s total analytics jobs was 7.2 %. Vacancies in the sector fell from 109,000 in February to 82500 in May. Even after that, there is a huge demand for employees in the main sectors of the industry.

Why are more jobs available in these sectors in the country? Funding for Indian analytics startups is growing every year, the report said. Investments are being made to increase analytics capacity in the country. Now more jobs are being outsourced to Indian companies due to the Corona virus.

Currently, most of the jobs are in MNCs and domestic IT and KPO companies, which are shifting jobs in India and promoting them on a large scale. The study examined job prospects in data science this year. It also sought to know the impact of the Corona virus epidemic on the vacancies in these sectors. The study also found that the demand for mid and senior level professionals with more than 7 years of experience is increasing. According to the study, more jobs were available for young professionals in 2019, while companies are vigorously promoting mid- and senior-level professionals this year.

Most of the jobs are in Bengaluru. Bengaluru contributes about 23 % to the total analytics job openings in the country, which is slightly higher than last year. It is followed by Delhi / NCR with 20 % and Mumbai with about 15 % of the total openings available in the country.

Excluding the IT sector, the BFSI sector has the highest number of analytics jobs at around 35 %. However, jobs in the sector are declining. The sector’s contribution to total analytics jobs was 41 % in 2018 and 38.3 % in 2019. The pharma sector has 16.3 % analytics jobs available, up 3.9 % from last year.

These 10 companies have the most jobs – Accenture, Infosys, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Capgemini, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, IBM India, Dell, HCL and Collabra Technologies. Most of the companies are in the IT and KPO sectors.

According to the listed job openings, the median salary of data science professionals in the country is Rs 9.5 lakh per annum. However, the actual salary is more than the listed salary. Salaries of professionals with more than a decade of experience range from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

The highest demand is for Python professionals. Python is being sought as a core skill in 27 % of openings. Then there is Java / JavaScript. This skill is in demand in 22% of openings.
