A Study: Millions of women consider quitting job due to double responsibility in Corona Pandemic

According to a recent report, millions of working women are considering reducing their shifts or quitting their jobs because of Covid 19. The report claims that working women are suffering from a lack of balance in childcare and home maintenance as well as in job security because they do not get help from their peers.

Lin In – a women’s rights group formed by Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg in 2013, has surveyed 40,000 employees of 317 U.S. companies for her report. The survey found that 25 % of total working women are considering quitting their jobs due to work stress. The report also found that men are more likely than women to take a leave or quitting job or move to a less demanding job, for taking care of their children.

Working women work in double shifts after childcare and housework. Mothers are more concerned about the negative impact on the job than fathers on handling the dual responsibilities of home and job during an epidemic. Lynn’s study also found that mothers take on 3 times more responsibilities than fathers in housework and childcare. Mothers spend three or more hours a day on housework and childcare than fathers.

The topmost conclusions of the study are;

  • Working women are suffering from a lack of balance in childcare/home maintenance as well as in job security.
  • 25 % of total working women are considering quitting their jobs due to work stress.
  • Mothers are more concerned about the negative impact on the job than fathers on handling the dual responsibilities.
  • Mothers take on 3 times more responsibilities than fathers in housework and childcare.
  • Mothers spend more than 3 hours a day on housework and childcare than fathers.
