To provide relief to the taxpayers, the government has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITRs) for individual taxpayers for the financial year 2019-20 by one more month to December 31, 2020. In addition, the deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for taxpayers whose accounts are audited is extended till January 31, 2021.
Earlier in May, the government extended the deadline for filing returns for individual taxpayers from July 31 to November 30 for the financial year 2019-20 in view of the Kovid-19 epidemic. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement that the deadline for filing returns for individual taxpayers has been extended to December 31, 2020.
In addition, the deadline for filing returns has been extended to January 31, 2021 for taxpayers who have to have their accounts audited. On the other hand, the government has also extended the date for filing annual return of GST for the financial year 2018-19 by two months to December 31, 2020.

Just last month, the government extended the deadline for filing GST annual returns and audit reports for the financial year 2018-19 to October 31, 2020. The CBIC said the deadline for filing the annual return and reconciliation statement (Form GSTR-9C) has been extended after receiving several suggestions.
